INGRES SUPPORTS OPEN SOURCE INITIATIVE OF EUROPEAN UNION
Ingres Board to be one of the First Contributions to the OSOR Repository
MUNICH, Germany and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - October 27, 2008 - Ingres Corporation, a leading provider of open source database management software and support services, today announced its support of the European program for the promotion of open source technology with Ingres Board, one of the first contributions to the Open Source Observatory and Repository (OSOR). Ingres Board is an enterprise-class solution for meeting management in the public sector.
Interoperable Delivery of pan-European eGovernment Services to Public Administrations, Businesses and Citizens (IDABC) was set up by the European Commission. Its aim is to promote European eGovernment projects and their respective implementation through the provision of generic services and tools. OSOR, the Open Source Observatory and Repository of the IDABC, acts as the central information platform and the first port of call for the uploading and downloading of open source solutions for applications aimed at the public sector.
Ingres Board, running under GNU General Public License Version 2, is now available at http://forge.osor.eu/projects/ingresboard for download. The solution is currently deployed by the city of Schwäbisch Hall, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, which has relied on Ingres Board for their "council information system" in which it has successfully supported the work of the administrative staff to ease their daily work-burden.
"The inclusion of Ingres Board in the OSOR Repository further underscores how, with its enterprise-capable open source solutions, Ingres successfully addresses the IT challenges specific to the public sector," said Bertram Mandel, managing director CEMEA and vice president of sales and services at Ingres. "We are proud to be one of the first commercial open source providers to support the IDABC in the promotion of its open source philosophy within the EU."
All meetings, whether for municipal or borough councils, require a comprehensive and thorough preparation and follow-up. The easy-to-use Ingres Board solution can drastically reduce and accelerate the work processes of the administrative staff, such as the drawing up of meeting announcements, minutes, etc. Ingres Board meets the W3C standards, ensuring compliance with international web standards. The solution supports secure data access over an SSL equipped web server and ensures with the ability to assign various levels of read and write access rights for users that only authorized persons have access to specific information. The visual concept of the system is based on Wikipedia, making it is easy and intuitive to use and master. The system also offers a number of search functions that make it quick and easy to find any set of minutes.
