RED HAT AND INGRES OFFER OPEN SOURCE STACK FOR INDEPENDENT SOFTWARE VENDORS

Kick-off Event Gives the Start Signal for a Joint Partner Approach

FRANKFURT, Germany and REDWOOD CITY, Calif., November 6, 2008 - Ingres and Red Hat today announced plans to work closely together with Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) in the EMEA region. Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, and Ingres, a leading provider of open source database management software and support services, are collaborating to present ISVs with an enterprise-class business offering. A kick-off event on Thursday, November 27, 2008 in Frankfurt, Germany, will signal the start of joint activities between the companies. To register for the event, please go to www.ingres.com.

Ingres is a member of Red Hat Exchange (RHX), a program through which Red Hat showcases enterprise-ready open source solutions with its ISV partners. Red Hat and Ingres are combining their proven enterprise solutions in order to provide partners with a powerful solution stack through the combination of three core components, including the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 operating system, Ingres Database, and JBoss Enterprise Middleware. Combined, the solutions will offer ISVs a high-performance, cost-effective, and solution-independent platform on which they can base further applications tailored to the specific requirements of customer projects.

The integrated technology approach offers partners key benefits and the opportunity to tap into new market opportunities. The open source business model of both companies allows partners to offer their customers significant cost advantages. The platform is solution independent and allows partners to simply integrate additional software components in the stack. In this way, they can quickly and effectively migrate their applications to a high-availability platform or launch complete innovations with a considerably faster time to market.

"We are a long-standing partner of Red Hat and Ingres," said Per Trifunovic, CEO of BBP AG. "We use JBoss Enterprise Middleware and Ingres Database and are in the process of migrating our entire service office to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. Because we require a platform that is one hundred percent stable and reliable, the quality of the products and the 24/7 service available from Ingres and Red Hat played a key role in our decision making.

BPP is one of the leading providers of Interbanking solutions and Compliance Filtering and is deployed in more than 200 financial institutions worldwide. BBP AG's solutions are used to securely and reliably transfer more than 500 million transactions per year.

"Our close co-operation with ISVs is just another key step toward further promoting open source solutions, particularly in the enterprise environment," stated Petra Heinrich, director partner sales & alliances EMEA at Red Hat. "The combination of our components with the Ingres enterprise-class database offers partners a significant competitive edge and helps them successfully deploy their projects, even when IT budgets are tight."

The joint Red Hat & Intel Centers of Excellence in Munich, Paris, Stockhom, and Farnborough (UK), and the European Technology Center of Ingres in Ilmenau (Germany) place powerful teams of experts at the disposal of ISVs who are in the development or migration phase of an application. This grants ISVs access to qualified technology resources and expertise at both centres for core components of the shared open source stack. Ingres and Red Hat also have further experts available to assist and advise partners throughout their projects with specialist knowledge, training and, of course, with development and productive support.

"Technology partnerships and close cooperation are important success factors for commercial open source providers. One of the key strengths of open source is the joint approach of partners working together," said Bertram Mandel, managing director CEMEA and vice president of sales & services at Ingres. "Together with Red Hat we are delighted to be able to offer existing and future ISV partners an enterprise open source platform - and support them every step of the way, from the development stage right through to productive implementation at the end customer!"

A launch event is planned for November 27 at Messeturm in Frankfurt, Germany, and signals the start of a range of joint activities for existing partners and interested parties to be held across the EMEA region in the following months. Also on the event agenda - the launch of the Ingres and Red Hat integrated technology platform. Industry expert, Paolo Malinverno, from the independent market research institute, Gartner, will be presenting a key note highlighting the market potential of enterprise open source software stacks, and will demonstrate the opportunities and challenges presented by this approach.
