DBA Tools
Ingres comes with a wide range of management tools to help you administer and manage Ingres. In addition, many commercial and open source tools are also available for managing your Ingres installations.
Visual Manager
Visual Manager is a graphical tool that lets administrators view and manage virtually all aspects of their Ingres installations whether on the local machine or elsewhere on th e network. Visual Manager allows system managers to configure the database, monitor user activity and view various health aspects of Ingres.
Visual DBA
Visual DBA (VDBA) is a graphical tool that can be access independently or from Visual Manager. VDBA allows Database Administrators (DBA’s) to create and manage databases and database objects. Objects can be created, deleted, analyzed and cloned right from the VDBA desktop.
Visual SQL
Visual SQL (VSQL) allow’s DBA’s and end users to quickly and easily build and run SQL against Ingres databases whether local or remote. VSQL’s SQL assistant guides individuals through graphical menus to build Ingres SQL alleviating the need to know Ingres syntax.
Nagios
Nagios® is an Open Source host, service and network monitoring program. Nagios is a host and service monitor designed to inform you of network problems before your client s, end-users or managers do. It has been designed to run under the Linux operating system, but works fine under most *NIX variants as well. The monitoring daemon runs intermitten t checks on hosts and services you specify using external "plugins" which return status information to Nagios. When problems are encountered, the daemon can send notifi cations out to administrative contacts in a variety of different ways (email, instant message, SMS, etc.). Current status information, historical logs, and reports can all be acc essed via a web browser.
Quest TOAD
Toad is a powerful, low-overhead tool that makes database and application development faster and easier and simplifies day-to-day administration tasks. Toad has features whic h make database developers, application developers, DBA’s and business analysts more productive.
SQuirreL
The SQuirreL SQL client provides a simple graphical interface to relational databases. A SQuirreL user can:
- easily view and edit data in any JDBC-compliant database,
- view the database’s meta-data,
- work with multiple databases on both local and remote machines,
- use a single, consistent interface to work with different database engines, and
- expand the tool’s capabilities and include DB-specific functionality using plugins.
